Are you experiencing sharp pain, an abscess or an accident that has just happened unexpectedly? Whatever the problem is, we are always there to provide same-day appointments to fix things as soon as possible.
Most common emergencies:
1. Pain – due to dental decays or damages that lead to nerve damage. Treatment usually through a root canal treatment or tooth extraction.
2. Abscess – painful and localized swelling, with red and congested tissue, which can appear around the tooth root or in the space between the gum & the tooth. The emergency treatment is incision and drainage of purulent collection, continued by root canal treatment or tooth extraction on a different appointment, as appropriate.
3. Dental Trauma (Tooth avulsion or fracture) may be treated by immobilization, root canal treatment or tooth extraction if the tooth can’t be saved, depending on the damage.
4. Post-surgery bleeding – might occur 3-4 days after extraction, spontaneously or induced by a trauma. In this case, the emergency treatment varies depending on the severity of the bleeding.
5. Alveolitis is a localized infection at the site of an extracted tooth and manifests itself through live pain, which disappears the second or third day of extraction. Emergency treatment consists in lavage cleaning, antibiotics, sterilizing the zone & possibly curettage.
6. Pericoronitis – appears as a problem of tooth eruption and manifests as a minor irritation of the gum, accompanied by an unpleasant odour and taste and impossibility to open the mouth.
For us, dental emergencies are as important as any other medical problem, which if neglected or treated superficially, might cause permanent disability or may require a complex and more costly treatments in the future.
Emergency treatment policy:
Patients should request an emergency appointment ONLY if they experience sharp pain and
it can’t be postponed, our specialists will need the full medical history of the patient that will
be completed at our reception, and an X-ray will be done in our clinic to evaluate the case
and provide the best treatment plan.
